25A DC-DC charger with MPPT solar input and reverse charge
Why buy this?
- Charge your campervan service battery using solar or vehicle alternator. The solar system charges your battery when you are at a campsite, and the alternator takes over the charging when you are driving.
- Arrive at the campsite with the service battery fully charged ready for use.
- Allows you to go to campsites off the beaten track without mains hookup.
- A unique feature is the reverse charge function which allows you to start your car from your LiFePO4 battery – perfect for emergencies when you have a flat starter battery.
Features
Reverse charge functionality. Flat battery? This charger can swiftly breathe life back into your battery to get you back on the road.
All-in-one. An alternative system would need a solar charge controller, and two DC-DC chargers to achieve the same functionality.
Smart alternator compatible. Works with modern smart alternators.
Dual input power. Uses the alternator and then automatically switches to solar.
Multiple protections. Includes input/output reverse polarity, input/output over voltage, over-charge and BMS protection for lithium battery.
Water resistant. IP54 level water protection which means it is designed to handle water splashes. This makes it ideal for the damper conditions in campervans, yachts and boats.
Accreditations
Compliant with Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) in Electrical and Electronic Equipment.
European CE approved – assessed to meet high safety, health, and environmental protection requirements.
MPPT vs PWM
Charge controllers are either Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) or Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). They can look identical, but have different electronics inside.
Benefits of MPPT
Increased output in partial shade conditions e.g. when there are clouds or partial shade.
More flexible design when matching with solar panels. Can be used with less expensive domestic style solar panels (higher voltage).
More efficient than PWM controllers meaning more energy from the sun being stored in the battery.
Recommendation
For caravans, yachts and campervans, where there is often limited space for solar panels and often shade, we recommend MPPT solar charge controllers.
Compatibility
- Compatible with Lithium batteries including LiFePO4 batteries.
- Max solar input is 300W at 12V.
- Max solar voltage is 30V (Open Circuit Voltage – Voc).
- Only compatible with 12V battery systems.
- Suitable for boats and yachts since has a good waterproof rating of IP54.
