Solar MPPT charge controller with integrated DC-DC charger – SRNE MD 30A
Why buy this?
- Charge your campervan service battery using solar or vehicle alternator. So when you are at a campsite the solar charges and when driving the alternator charges.
- Arrive at the campsite with the service battery fully charged ready for use.
- Allows you to go to campsites off the beaten track without mains hookup.
- Optional Bluetooth module (for monitoring on your phone) and remote display (for installations where the screen is difficult to view) – see below in “You may also like…” section.
Features
Good compatibility – 30A model which is ideally matched to a 60A alternator often seen in campervans, cars and boats. Support a wide variety of alternators such as modern intelligent alternators and automatically identifies alternator type through ignition signals.
Integrated DC-DC charger so the alternator can be used to charge a lead acid starter battery and LiFePO4 service battery. Charge your service battery automatically when driving.
Simultaneous charging allows solar charging at the same time as alternator charging.
Temperature compensation on the lead acid starter battery to help prolong the life of the battery.
High quality unit. When you pick this charge controller up you will immediately feel the quality compared to some alternatives options.
Very quiet due to natural cooling. It has a large heat sink for a controller of this size. Other controllers have a fan which may not be ideal in a small environment like in boats, campervans or caravans.
Control charging remotely by utilising the remote switch option.
Accreditations
Compliant with Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) in Electrical and Electronic Equipment.
European CE approved – assessed to meet high safety, health, and environmental protection requirements.
MPPT vs PWM
Charge controllers are either Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) or Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). They can look identical, but have different electronics inside.
Benefits of MPPT
Increased output in partial shade conditions e.g. when there are clouds or partial shade.
More flexible design when matching with solar panels. Can be used with less expensive domestic style solar panels (higher voltage).
More efficient than PWM controllers meaning more energy from the sun being stored in the battery.
Recommendation
For caravans, yachts and campervans, where there is often limited space for solar panels and often shade, we recommend MPPT solar charge controllers.
